PTC named among best cities for bikes

Peachtree City has been named as one of the most bicycle friendly communities in the U.S.A, joining an exclusive list of 325 other areas.

With banner printing and a host of other Stationery likely to be printed by city officials to celebrate the fact, PTC celebrated becoming a bronze level Bicycle Friendly Community (BFC) last month. The award was presented by the League of American Bicyclists.

At the presentation event, the president of the league, Andy Clarke, said that visionary communities like Peachtree City were helping to create a long-lasting legacy through cycling.

Advising the council of the award at a presentation event last month, Mayor Vanessa Fleisch was joined by a number of local cycling groups that helped the city achieve the award.

The Public Information Officer for the city, Betsy Tyler, said:

“The bronze level BFC award recognizes Peachtree City’s commitment to improving conditions for bicycling through investment in bicycling promotion, education programs, infrastructure and pro-bicycling policies.”

Mayor Fleisch, meanwhile, went on to say that to most, Peachtree City was well known for the number of golf carts it has buzzing around. However, with that number now well into 10,000, she said there were probably just about the same number of bikes using the cart paths too.

Bicycle Friendly Communities are present in all 50 states in the U.S., with Georgia having eight sites including PTC.
