Peachtree City benefits from countys FEMA CRS increase

The attraction of Peachtree City for relocating families is certain to be enhanced by a change to the Community Rating System (CRS) classification of Fayette County.

The reclassification to a Class 5 came about as a result of a comprehensive five-year review conducted jointly by the Department of Homeland Security and FEMA (Federal Emergency Management Agency. For the majority of residents in the county the class change qualifies them for a 25 percent discount in premiums from the National Flood Insurance Program (NFIP).

Information concerning many federal programs can be found in local libraries and sourced from brochure printing services.

In a notification of the reclassification CRS Program Manager Shilpa Mulik said:

“Fayette County will increase to a Class 5 in the NFIP CRS. The floodplain management activities implemented by your community qualify it for a 25 percent discount on flood insurance premiums for most NFIP policies issued or renewed on or after October 1, 2026.”

Ten classification levels exist within the CRS system starting at Class 10 offering no discount and extending to Class 1 which qualifies for a 45 percent discount. The highest CRS rating of any county in Georgia is a Class 5, meaning Peachtree City and the other communities within Fayette County have as high a NFIP discount as any community in the state.

According to FEMA Fayette’s CRS rating will be automatically renewed annually, assuming the County continues with all certified CRS activities and NFIP requirements.
