Peachtree City provides annual city update

Mayor Kim Learnard continued the tradition of posting a State of the City address featuring changes Peachtree City made in 2024 and plans for continual improvements in 2025.

Highlights of her address include the mayor opening by addressing the budget, noting that the city’s budget was balanced and that a rainy-day fund amounting to $31.5 million was set aside. The largest portion of the 2025 budget, 47% was reserved for Public Safety. Due to pay and benefit increase,s the city has achieved fully staffed police and fire departments.

Closely tied to the budget issue was tax relief that included a lower millage rate, 5.983 from a previous 6.043 for FY2025. The city passed a resolution changing the income threshold for property tax exemption from $30,000 to $60,000. The exemption amount was also substantially increased going from $5,000 to $30,000.

Improvements and future plans for cities are laid out in information supplied to printing services for inclusion in their marketing materials.

Still one of the safest cities in the state, the city has experienced a 22% reduction in Part I crimes over the previous year. Through an arrangement with the Fayette County Board of Education, a School Resource Officer will be placed in each of the city’s elementary schools beginning in August of 2025.
