Peachtree City PD takes road safety honor

Local Print companies in Peachtree City could soon be contacted for a round of poster and banner printing, after Peachtree City Police Department (PCPD) took the top honor at the 2013 National Law Enforcement Challenge for traffic safety.

Voted for by the International Association of Chiefs of Police, the department was up against similar-sized forces from across the U.S. The top award means that PCPD has the best approach to traffic safety, said Lt. Mark Brown, who revealed that the evaluation covers everything from their department’s ability to identify problems, to how effective its efforts to tackle them are.

Brown continued to explain that PCPD was the only department across the whole of the state to place in the 2013 challenge. It is also the fourth time in a row it has achieved a placing in the rankings.

In the last five years, the statistics for road safety are vastly improved in the area. According to the figures, there has been a 10% drop in the number of collisions each year, a 21% drop in the number of injuries, and a 17% fall in collisions as a result of DUI drivers.

Other figures reveal further progress, including a seatbelt compliance rate nearly 3% ahead of the average for Georgia and speed-related collisions being 3.5% below the national average.
