Many people are expected to turnout for a hike through Flat Creek Nature Preserve tomorrow, August 10, with a free guided tour of the wonderful area on offer.
The event is being provided by the Peachtree City Library, in association with Southern Conversation Trust (SCT). It is part of the Library's 'One Book, One Peachtree City' read drive. There has already been plenty of advertising of the event, with poster and flyer printing locally, so healthy numbers are predicted for the walk.
Taking up 513 acres, the wetland center extends for more than 3.5 miles from the Lake Peachtree spillway, along Flat Creek, and downstream to Georgia Highway 74. The SCT has invested heavily in developing the site. Works competed include the installation of a mulch trail, a boardwalk extending 1,200 foot, and two viewing platforms with seating areas.
The trail shows visitors the abundance of nature in a typical Piedmont forest wetland, with markers to help visitors identify the many different types of trees and plants. With chestnut oak, red maples, cardinal flowers, and turtlehead ferns just four of the stunning varieties, there is a great deal to enjoy.
All ages are welcome to attend and anyone wanting to take part can simply turn up on the day. Those wishing to explore Peachtree's wonderful natural fauna are asked to meet at the parking lot at the Frederick Brown Jr. Ampitheater, 201 McIntosh Trail, at 10:00 am.
