Fayette County Schools post impressive ACT scores
Fayette County School District once again maintained its high average composite ACT score and, with Peachtree City’s lone public high school ranking the 13th best statewide, the highest in the district.
Fayette County’s Class of 2024 posted an average 22.8 composite ACT score, which was higher than the state or national average. The average for students throughout Georgia was 21.2, while the national average was 19.4. An analysis of the four categories showed Fayette County outscoring both the state and nation in each of the four disciplines measured – English, reading, math, and science – by at least a full point.
Additionally, Fayette County was third highest among those Georgia school systems in which more than 250 of the students were college readiness test takers. Fayette had 605 of its 2024 class take the test.
ACT and SAT scores may sometimes be included in the promotional materials chambers of commerce send to print shops.
Of the almost 300 high schools throughout Georgia, Fayette County public high schools ranked as follows:
• 13th - McIntosh High School
• 17th - Starr’s Mill
• 35th – Whitewater
• 52nd - Sandy Creek
• 68th Fayette County High
The objective of an ACT test is evaluating likely success levels in first-year college coursework. ACT scores are College Readiness Benchmarks representing the necessary level of achievement students need to have a 50% chance of a B grade, or a 75% chance of at least a C in first-year college courses.
