Newnan festival to celebrate local artistry

Newnan is holding a festival to celebrate Southern heritage in early June.

The event, called Southern Lit Fest, will have items and activities for people of all ages. The entire celebration will last three days, with different activities happening each day. Portions of the event are ticketed.

On Friday, the children’s portion of events will take place, as well as a visit with local writers at the Carnegie, and a stroll through downtown Newnan with a BBQ meal. The stroll will contain music, Books, and art. This downtown walk is a ticketed portion of the event.

Saturday, sessions with authors, as well as some with Books, will take place in and around the town square. More details are likely to become available as the event nears. Historic homes around the College-Temple area will also offer their porches for a bourbon tasting with music, which is a ticketed event as well.

Sunday will have a special guest appearance. Attendees are encouraged to purchase tickets early to guarantee their space at the portions of the festival requiring tickets for entry. Given the size of the event, it is likely staff will have either shirts or buttons with the festival’s Logo Design on it in order to help guests identify who to ask questions to. The festival is being organized by the Carnegie Library, hence the literary theme throughout.

This will take place the first weekend next month, June 4 through 6. The library where portions of the event will take place is located at 1 Lagrange St in Newnan.
