Newnan foodies and those who would just like to learn a new hobby can learn all about how easy it can be to have their own oyster mushroom growing log that will be fruitful for as long as the next five years.
Growing mushrooms at home does not have to be difficult, and during the hands-on workshop, they attendees will be taught the steps to take to successfully produce a crop. This will start with choosing the log that will be used, and go on from there.
Once their log has been chosen, members of the group will be led through the steps of preparing it for inoculation and maintaining it once the mushrooms have sprouted. With a little bit of luck and some TLC, the logs will continue to be productive for up to five years.
While the event will focus on learning, the organizers also want it to be fun. Mimosas will be served, and once the class is over, the group will be welcome to tour the farm and learn more about its operation.
An event like this can be very informative, but it can sometimes be difficult for a participant to take it all in. Area Print shops can prepare simple “growing guides” to distribute to the students so that they can refer to it once they are growing at home.
This Newnan area event has been planned for the afternoon of February 16. It is being hosted by Serenbe Farms, which is located at 8715 Atlanta Newnan Road.
