Mableton is now the newest city in Georgia.
Residents of the unincorporated area passed the measure with 54% of the vote. State Representative Erica Thomas said that those who live in Mableton wanted to see real improvements and real change in the community, and felt they were often overlooked. Thomas added that establishing cityhood enables the residents to have greater control of the direction of the community and to have resources that are solely directed for them, rather than sharing them with others in the county.
Such new cities and their municipal offices may now turn to those who supply Graphic Design Services to help create a logo for the city and assist with other official printed materials.
There will be a mayor and the Mableton City Council will have six members. Each will serve four years and will be elected in a general election that will take place in the odd-numbered years. The first quarter of 2023 is when the first election will take place.
A city manager will be appointed by the council and will be the chief administrator and executive officer. The charter also calls for the creation of “community improvement districts” and a chief judge. The city of Mableton will still use the fire, police, and emergency response services of Cobb County but will manage its own zoning, parks, planning, and waste management.
