The school athletic program at Mableton will get started with a new mini-pitch field being supported by The Atlanta United Community Fund.
It is part of the GA 100 campaign, which is looking to build up to 100 mini-pitches in under-resourced communities across the state. It will also be the field for the Science, Art, and Entrepreneurship School. The mini-pitch field will be next to the main building of the school and will help to create a soccer team that will compete against other schools and help to build the athletic program of the school.
Banner printing is often used at such sites to inform residents of such projects and their benefits.
The school is a non-profit and private school and has about 375 students, most of whom are from a minority population. The school serves grades pre-school through eighth using a framework of project-based learning. It was looking for a grant through the Community Fund to transform a space left unused on its campus.
A committee member of Atlanta United Community Fund, Julia Chongarlides, said this space was once a dirt field and is being transformed into a greenspace that will educate students on the value of teamwork, promote a healthy lifestyle, and unify children of diverse backgrounds. She expressed her pride in this field and the many more that will be forthcoming.
