Elections to be held in new city of Mableton

Mableton will be holding elections for six members of the city council and its mayor early next year.

Candidates who qualify for mayor and city council need to have lived within the boundaries of the city for at least 12 months prior to the election, and must be at least 21 years old. In addition, those who plan to run for city council need to have lived in the council district, which they plan to represent for at least 12 months prior to the election.

Residents will vote for the council members in their district, while the election for mayor will be citywide. Posting printing can be used throughout such districts to inform residents of polling places.

The first city council will stagger the terms of its members such that three members will serve from March 2023 to December 2025, while the other three members will remain on the council until December 2027. After the initial council is elected, all members of the council will serve for terms of four years, and no elected official in the city will be allowed to serve for more than three consecutive terms.

Those who wish to vote in the election need to register by Tuesday, February 21. Early voting will begin on Monday, February 27, and in-person voting will be on Tuesday, March 21.
