Trio of jazz musicians to light up Mableton

Mableton will be hosting a concert with three jazz musicians — Boney James, Norman Brown and Alex Bugnon — at the Mable House Barnes Amphitheatre this May.

James is a saxophonist most known for dominating the smooth jazz and contemporary jazz genres. After first breaking out in the 1990s, making a splash on radio and music stores, he took that momentum into the 2000s with albums that received Grammy nominations, some of which became No. 1 on the contemporary jazz charts.

Brown, who is co-headlining the concert, is a Grammy-winning guitarist who is also known for his vocals and musical production. His latest album is influenced by the teachings of ancient Egyptians. It features a reworking of the 1970s chart-topper “Free,” featuring the original R&B artist, Deniece Williams, whom he met on a cruise.

Meanwhile, Bugnon’s instrument of choice is the jazz piano, taking influence from both jazz and R&B. Both Bugnon’s father and his uncle were jazz musicians, growing up in a household filled with the seminal American genre of music. His early influences include funk bands Earth, Wind & Fire and the Ohio Players, as well as smooth rock maestro Carlos Santana.

Concerts like this may choose to use flyer printing to create music sheets, set lists and promotional material.

An Evening of Jazz: Boney James, Normal Brown, and Alex Bugnon is happening on May 23 at 7 pm at the Mable House Barnes Amphitheatre at 5239 Floyd Road in Mableton.
