Unique event kicks off holiday season in Gainesville

The Jingle Mingle and Lighting of the Chicken returns to Gainesville next month.

Organized by the City of Gainesville, a full slate of activities awaits as a start to the holiday season. Local governments often use Letterheads to announce special community festivals and events such as this.

Carriage rides, train rides, inflatable slides, mascots, and more will be available to entertain the children. The highlight will be the arrival of Santa on a fire truck after a cruise through the downtown streets.

Deejay JB Jams will start the festivities with music in Roosevelt Square. Singers, dancers, and other performing artists are also scheduled to entertain the crowd.

Historic downtown buildings will be open for tours, shopping, and refreshments. Other activities include a festival of trees, the Gainesville Fire Department’s s’mores stations, and the Lighting of the Chicken.

In recognition of the city being known as the Poultry Capital of the World, where there are more than a dozen processing plants, a large metal chicken has been lit up for the holidays each year. Last year, the deteriorating chicken above Main Street Market was removed and a new Santa Chicken in a sleigh led by seven chicks was installed at Roosevelt Square.

The event will be held on Saturday, November 21 from 4:00 pm to 8:00 pm in Roosevelt Square in downtown Gainesville.
