Next month’s Atlanta Hong Kong Dragon Boat Festival in Gainesville, the 29th edition of the event, is expected to match the success of last year’s event that attracted more than 10,000 people.
As many as 75 teams, ranging from across the country, will take part in the races, which highlight what is recognized as not only a sports competition, but also a cultural event. In 2025, there were teams hailing from California, Florida, New Jersey, South Carolina, Massachusetts, Oklahoma, New York, North Carolina, Louisiana, and the home state of Georgia.
Spectators will be able to cheer on their favorite teams, and also enjoy international foods and a special opening ceremony, including a blessing of the boats by Buddhist monks.
Hong Kong began worldwide dragon boat races in the mid-1970s, and the sport has continued to grow in popularity throughout Asia, North America, and Europe ever since.
The Gainesville festival is made possible by both large corporate sponsors and supporting local businesses. Companies and organizations that sponsor events such as this often use area Print shops for brand creation and advertising materials.
The Annual Atlanta Hong Kong Dragon Boat Festival’s 29th edition will take place on Saturday, September 12, 2026, at Lake Lanier Olympic Park in Gainesville. The venue will open for team registration at 6 am, with opening ceremonies set for shortly after 7 am, and racing beginning at 8 am.Get a Free Quote for Print
