Local residents would no doubt be in a rush for poster and banner printing in celebration of a local girl doing good over in London this weekend, as Brookwood graduate Amanda Weir took Bronze in the 400 meter freestyle relay.
Amanda, along with the rest of her team, took third place in a great battle in the pool, which took place in the first full day of this year's meet.
Along with Lia Neal, Natalie Coughlin, and anchor swimmer and fellow Georgia Bulldog, Allison Schmitt, the team came in behind the Netherlands, missing out by just one half of a second. The strong Australian women's team took the Gold medal.
Amanda Weir, the Brookwood High graduate has already had a great career in the pool. She has already celebrated two silver medals on 2004 and 2008, is the proud owner of six national titles and is the world record holder for individual split times in the 400m freestyle.
Whilst back in Snellville at Brookwood, young Amanda was already breaking records, setting the high school state record for 50 yard and 100 yard freestyle. She also led the Broncos to three consecutive State Five A team titles, earned herself All-America distinction across nine events and has taken nine World Championship medals.
The weekend saw a strong start to the meet for the American swim team, with a Gold from Ryan Lochte the highlight. However, with just a silver in the men's 400m freestyle too, it will be hoped that more Gold medals will be coming soon.
