Asian American Voices for Education will host its fifth annual Lunar New Year celebration in Decatur.
The event serves as a fundraiser supporting the organization’s work to advance the inclusion of Asian American history in public school curricula across Georgia.
Recognized as the Atlanta area’s first multinational Lunar New Year gathering, the festival highlights customs from Vietnamese, Korean, Chinese, Thai, Japanese, and Filipino traditions. Programming will take place both inside and outside the recreation center. However, there will be a central performance area that accommodates music, dance, and ceremonial displays throughout the afternoon.
This year’s observance aligns with the Year of the Fire Horse and will close the Lunar New Year season with a lantern-themed component. Attendees are invited to create lanterns and contribute them to a shared installation displayed across the courtyard. Family-focused activities will include creative stations for children.
An artisan market will feature handcrafted goods from regional vendors. Food sellers will be available, offering dishes commonly associated with prosperity and renewal. Events such as this often use poster printing as a form of advertising.
Admission for adults is $10, while children under 18 may attend at no cost. Registration for this event can be completed through the Eventbrite listing.
The festival will take place on Sunday, March 1 from 1:00 pm to 6:00 pm at the Recreation Center, 404 W. Trinity Place, Decatur.
