The Decatur Book Festival will mark its 20th anniversary this October. It will honor two decades of literary dialogue, diverse voices, and community engagement.
Since its founding in 2006, the festival has become one of the largest independent book events in the United States, attracting authors and readers from across the country.
This milestone year features keynote appearances by acclaimed poet Saeed Jones and bestselling author Angie Thomas. Thomas will open Friday’s events at Presser Hall at Agnes Scott College, presenting her latest release, Nic Blake and the Remarkables: The Book of Anansi. Later that evening, Jones will speak at First Baptist Church of Decatur, participating in The People’s Project.
Visual artist Vedika Mehra was selected as the 2025 festival design contest winner. Her artwork, showcasing an open book surrounded by natural elements and community imagery, will serve as the festival’s visual centerpiece. Mehra’s design reflects the festival’s enduring theme: storytelling as a bridge between individuals and cultures.
Admission details include general entry to public programming. Attendees are encouraged to subscribe to festival updates and consider supporting through donations or sponsorships. Partnering booksellers include Charis Books, Eagle Eye Book Shop, and Little Shop of Stories.
Local businesses may use custom flyer printing to increase visibility, enhance booth presentation, and promote special offerings throughout festivals such as this one.
The Decatur Book Festival 20th Anniversary Celebration takes place Friday and Saturday, October 3rd to 4th. The opening speech of the event will occur at 141 E College Ave, Decatur, Georgia.
