Journalist and author Brian Goldstone will open the 2026 Decatur Book Festival this October.
He will provide a keynote discussion centered on housing insecurity, working families and his Pulitzer Prize-winning nonfiction book. A signing will follow the program, with Copies available for purchase from Charis Books & More.
Goldstone won the 2026 Pulitzer Prize for General Nonfiction for There Is No Place for Us: Working and Homeless in America. The book follows five Atlanta households confronting unstable housing despite employment, examining how rising rents, limited tenant protections and economic pressures can push working families into homelessness. It was also named a finalist for the Carnegie Medal for Excellence in Nonfiction and received recognition from major national publications.
A former Decatur resident, Goldstone has written long-form journalism and essays for publications including The New York Times, Harper’s Magazine and The New Republic. He holds a doctorate in cultural anthropology from Duke University and has held research and fellowship positions at Columbia University and New America.
Admission to the keynote is free. Advance Eventbrite registration is encouraged for attendance estimates. Seats will be available on a first-arrival basis. Complimentary parking will be provided outdoor and in covered areas near the church.

The keynote is scheduled for Friday, October 2nd, from 7 pm to 8:30 pm at the First Baptist Church of Decatur, 308 Clairemont Ave, Decatur, Georgia. Doors open at 6 pm.
