A bigger than life-size sculpture of a former Macon Water Authority (MWA) chairman is to be unveiled this week, with a Snellville artist selected to produce the momentous work.
The bronze piece by Julie McCraney-Brogdon was produced over the course of the last year, together with a second bust. They both represent Frank C. Amerson Jr., who acted as board member and chairman for the Macon Water Authority for 35 years.
The bust has already been displayed at the MWA's office, whilst the larger bronze item will be unveiled tomorrow, April 15. With a number of guests present and printing companies likely to produce literature to outline the achievements of the man, it will stand outside the Amerson Water Treatment.
Key to delivering essential water and sewer services to Macon, Amerson worked for MWA from 1976 until his death in 2012.
His good friend, Kirby Godsey, said he was delighted with the sculpture. Marking him out as a significant community leader, he went on to say Amerson was a key figure in giving Macon the best water services in the state.
The present Executive Director of the water authority, Tony Rojas, was also quick to congratulate the artist, who he said was selected for the task largely due to the success of other works she has on display in Macon.
Working from photographs to get a good representation, McCraney-Brogdon said she got a good 'sense of the man' from Amerson's former colleagues and family members.
