The Georgia Council on Developmental Disabilities and L’Arche Atlanta is bringing Treasure Maps, an interactive theater experience, to Decatur.
The pop-up theater will be set up at six cities in Georgia and features live hosts from Decatur hosting the event, which is a film screening. It will also have interactive activities and installations that visitors can experience in a safe, outdoors venue that allows for social distancing.
The highlight of the event is a film screening of the film Treasure Maps, which features stories and viewpoints from ten Georgia storytellers who give a glimpse of how people with developmental disabilities experience life in the community. They touch upon themes such as making friends, venturing into business, studying in college, isolation and acceptance, and facing challenges with physical disabilities. The film also shows how full inclusion makes a difference and transforms the lives of people with disabilities.
Visitors are encouraged to practice social distancing and follow precautions such as handwashing and use of masks to minimize the risk of Covid-19. Photographers will be present at the event to record and document the event. Such events are usually promoted with the help of poster printing.
The event is slated for July 10 from 7:30 pm. In case of extreme weather, the event will be held on July 17. The venue is Legacy Drive at 500 South Columbia Drive.
