Decatur’s city council has agreed to start the revitalization of local neighborhoods as early as next year.
The changes expected to take place include replacing sidewalks, demolition of dilapidated buildings, and an increase in the number of street-lighting poles.
The plan was officially set to take place in 2017 after public feedback was taken into consideration. The plans were not implemented sooner because changes in the city’s administration forced the renovation plans to be pushed back.
The new city manager, Scot Wrighton, is now ready to push ahead with the renovations. Memos and letters with the City of Decatur’s Logo Design and letterhead were circulated to the relevant stakeholders with the minutes from a recent meeting so that they are aware that the city is pushing ahead with the renovations.
The council had previously reviewed approximately 40 propositions for the revitalization. Those ideas included proposals for more security cameras and the demolition of buildings located on sites where more development projects are planned to be built. The main concern from residents regarded the foreclosure of properties and homes on the main roads heading into Decatur. The council wants to revitalize those areas so that people entering the city get a better perception of Decatur.
The council will use the upcoming months and weeks to hold more discussions on the plans and finalize the details of the project, before an official start date is announced.
