The first artists to benefit from the initiative from the Snellville Arts Commission are Donna Biggee and Diana Thurmon. Their work is presently on display in the City Hall Community Room, where a gallery has been installed to run through the spring.
Biggee is a well-known and respected local artist, having already enjoyed picking up awards for her work. Art experts say she has a gift for capturing the way light reflects in the natural world, with the artist herself saying nature is where she takes inspiration.
Thurmon too is an award-winning artist. Just last year, she picked up the Master Circle designation from the International Association of Pastel Societies.
With a feeling that she was made to paint, the artist says:
“Art has become so much a part of who I wish to be that when I am not in the midst of creating a piece I am probably visualizing another in my mind.”
She goes on to say that her studio is her “happy place”.
Poster printing in Roswell will hopefully make the City Hall Community Room a happy place for art lovers too. Located at 2342 Oak Road, the gallery is open from 8:00 am to 5:00 pm every day.
