The Decatur City Commission unanimously voted in favor of changes being made to the Legacy Park Master Plan, which include developing a pair of housing villages with the project.
Such changes are usually added to the graphic design and artistic renders of what the final project will look like.
The City of Decatur bought a piece or property that used to be a children’s home and is using the site to develop Legacy Park. The plans for the new development are being prepared by consultants from The Bleakly Advisory Group and Cooper Carry. According to Angela Threadgill from the Decatur Planning and Economic Development:
“We expect that the Legacy Park board will be able to use this part of the plan in a future RFQ or RFP process as they look for potential development partners. This is more of a framework for setting expectations for what we would want to see from a development partner.”
The two housing villages will be called North Housing Village and South Housing Village. The North Housing Village will feature concept designs for duplexes and single-family cottages and each unit will be around 1,500 square feet. The South Housing Village will have a mixture of flats, duplexes and multi-duplexes with about 130 units. The North Housing Village will be smaller and the South Housing Village will be denser.
Construction costs for each village are estimated at about $2m each.
