The nonprofit board overseeing a plot of land located in Decatur, soon to be the site for an affordable housing project, now has a new executive director.
Lyn Menne was chosen by the board, having served as the assistant city manager in Decatur. She was selected after a review process that saw the board receive more than 20 applications for the position.
Menne’s new contract will be finalized at the end of this month because the board wants to make a few changes before then, given her plenty of time to update her Business Cards.
Menne will be employed on a part-time basis during her first year and will take home a salary of $38,400. The board expects that she will stay in the position for a total of three years.
One of Menne’s first tasks will be dealing with the public backlash surrounding the affordable housing project. Some members of the community have expressed concerns that changes were made to the project’s plans without getting community feedback first. The land where the homes will be constructed was bought from the United Methodist Children’s Home for $40m.
Mayor Patti Garret previously stated that the city planned to develop 175, units and as many of them as possible will be made affordable. The plan currently being worked from shows plans for duplexes and cottages, as well as a playground and a track.
