An event which it is hoped will help keep our kids safe on the road comes to town this weekend, with parents urged to bring their children along.
The 'Safe Driving 4 Teens Safety Fair,' presented by the New London School of Driving in Snellville, rolls into the George Walton Academy tomorrow, July 20.
The fair has been specially designed as a point of information that will ensure young drivers are as safe as possible when taking to the road for the first time. The elements within the fair will teach how risky behaviors can be reduced, show what happens when these are not reduced, and educate on how better choices can be made. In essence, its aim is to improve the level of safety on the road for all of us; drivers and pedestrians alike.
Many local bodies are supporting the event. These include the Georgia Governor's Office of Highway Safety , Georgia Department of Driver Services, and the University of Georgia's Georgia Traffic Injury Prevention Institute. All will have representatives attending the fair, with flyer printing likely to be completed so kids can take home information.
Accident scenarios will be reenacted too. To give details about what can happen, there will be representatives from several local fire, police, and emergency services, with the Walton County Sheriff's Department also on hand to present a course on alcohol awareness.
A free event, both parents and their teenage children are welcome. It all gets underway at 10:30 am, running through 1:30 pm at George Walton Academy, 1 Bulldog Drive, in Monroe.
