While some Decatur residents may still be solidifying their back-to-school plans or trying to determine where they will eat their Thanksgiving dinner, the county has nailed down its future development plan. Created with input from county residents, the County Board of Commissioners has the future of DeKalb’s housing, land use, transportation and historic preservation all laid out and approved.
A news release from the county following its unanimous decision stated:
"During the development process of the plan, the community had the opportunity to guide land use and development to meet the county's projected future needs in terms of community goals, opportunities and work programs."
A county development plan makes it easier for individual communities in DeKalb County to attract new businesses. Details from the plan will likely find their way into promotional materials sent to printing services by chambers of commerce.
Every five to 10 years, the Georgia Department of Community Affairs mandates that a five-year update be made to each of its cities’ comprehensive plan document.
DeKalb’s latest update contains a new layout, recently-adopted county plans, updated demographics, details on broadband internet, an update of the Community Work Program and a report of accomplishments.
