City officials in Decatur, Georgia, have announced that they will be hosting a race to kick off the city’s bicentennial celebrations.
The purpose of the event is not only to provide local residents with a chance to enjoy the beautiful local scenery and engage in a fun athletic event, but to raise money for local efforts to restore Legacy Park.
The event is a partnership between city officials and the Legacy Decatur. foundation The goal of Legacy Decatur is to raise money to support local restoration initiatives, with a specific concentration in environmental preservation, recreation, community building, and affordable housing. This event will celebrate the 200th anniversary of Decatur, and money raised here will specifically go towards repopulating the City’s tree canopy.
The youth race will be held on Saturday, December 9, starting at 8:45am. The adult 5K will start at 9:30am. Runners are asked to arrive earlier in order to be ready for the event start. The race will be held at Legacy Park, which is located at 500 S. Columbia Drive, in Decatur. Runners can come to beat their own personal times, race against other runners, or simply run to enjoy themselves.
