The latest film to be shot here is 'Curveball', telling the story of a high school student who becomes one of the best baseball players in Georgia. Also tackling the problems of drugs among kids today, it stars 'Sons of Anarchy' actor Rockmond Dunbar and 'Stepmom' actress Lynn Whitfield. Playing the role of the baseball star, meanwhile, is Jean-Luc McCurtry.
Explaining that the film is a hard-hitting story, Errol Sadler, the producer for Supremacy Films, said:
"We get to see the rise and fall of this kid, and how important it is to have a father figure, or how important it is to have parental guidance."
The first scene to be filmed in Snellville was shot at Tom M. Wages Funeral Service, with the cast dressed all in black and flowers supplied by a local Snellville florist.
From now through August 20, a number of other locations will be used for filming. These will include Tri Cities High School in East Point. Lawrenceville will also be used.
There is also a chance for Snellville folks to get involved with the film, as the production crew will start to look for extras in the near future.
It is hoped that filming and post-production will be completed in time for some of the major festivals, such as Cannes, Sundance, and Tribeca. However, though discussions are continuing, there is no time frame for a theater release.
