Having recently received construction bids for the Towne Green project, the city of Snellville expects to make an award and finalize contracts by the end of September.
After that, and leading up to November, existing trees will be relocated and a labyrinth in the area surrounding the Veterans Memorial will be built.
Construction on the Towne Green itself will is scheduled to begin in December, and completion is planned to coincide with the opening of the Snellville Farmers’ Market next May.
The focus of the project is to improve the overall appearance of the Towne Green and realign curbs, gutters, and sidewalks. The plan was developed by Root Design of Tucker. It will include a two-foot sitting wall around the perimeter, with defined entrance ways for vehicles and pedestrians.
For those crossing Oak Road, there will be a raised crosswalk with signage where it intersects with Highway 78. Several brick paver areas will also be installed, as well as improved landscaping and foliage. There will also be major improvements in the electrical work, and installation of a traffic table and signage. The design creates a secluded area which promotes leisure and safety on the Green, while also providing functionality.
