Train route to connect Miami and Orlando

Privately owned Virgin Trains has broken ground on phase two of a planned high speed train line that will connect the Central Florida city of Orlando to Miami. The project is expected to be completed by 2022.

Virgin, with its recognizable red and white Logo Design, already has trains running from Miami to West Palm Beach. The company recently held a groundbreaking ceremony for this new route which will connect Orlando and Miami and become the fastest way to travel back and forth. The trains currently operate at a speed of 125 miles per hour.

The trains Orlando station will be located at the Orlando International Airport. Virgin Trains is investing over $4bn in this route, which is 170 miles long. Since the project is privately funded, Orange County Major Jerry Demings is pleased that there will be no hit to taxpayers in Central Florida.

Patrick Goddard, President of Virgin Trains USA, announced that the cost of the train ticket will be cheaper than that of an airline ticket, with expectations that the train ticket will be about one third less.

While the number of routes between the two cities is no known yet, the train currently operates on the hour between the cities of Miami, Ft. Lauderdale, and West Palm Beach. With typically long security lines at the Orlando International Airport, the train system will be an alternative for travelers who frequently travel to Miami.
