An Orlando festival celebrating the city’s multicultural nature will hold both a physical and virtual version of the event this November.
FusionFest will hold its digital component, called The Virtual World, on the day before the main festival. The online experience will use the Topia platform to create a digital festival space, which “attendees” can walk around using an avatar and communicate with other guests. Different areas of the map will include live videos, sound, and animations, as well as activities like a “Culture Cafe” designed to educate about different Forms of expression. The project is helmed by Tisse Mallon and Danielle Ziss.
The in-person version of FusionFest will kick off the following day with an “Opening Spectacle”, a display of flags, music, fashion, puppets and other cultural symbols from all around the world. Other events will include a global street dance party, art gallery, and a fusion cooking contest. The festival will highlight Orlando-area vendors providing food, services and gifts from a variety of cultures. Organizers hope that the event and its showcase of international tastes, graphic design and sensibilities will become a new Thanksgiving week tradition.
FusionFest’s Virtual World will take place on the event's website on November 27, with the physical event to follow at the Seneff Arts Plaza and Orlando City Hall Commons Plaza on November 28 and 29.
