A request by the city of New Port Richey to allow the crossing of golf carts at the intersection of Gulf Drive and US Highway 19 has been approved by the Florida Department of Transportation.
This approval was given after a traffic study was conducted in the area. The approval also includes the addition of Signs related to golf carts at the intersection. Local Print shops often assist in spreading the word about such new capabilities to the community using Flyers and other printed materials.
This change was made as there were many users of golf carts who were looking to get to and from the downtown area, as well as additional areas east of the highway.
The golf cart ordinance of the city requires that all golf carts looking to operate on designated city streets to have safe tires, a reliable steering apparatus, efficient brakes, red reflectorized warning devices in both the rear and front, and a rearview mirror. The ordinance also enables golf carts to operate on any street in the city except where prohibited, which now includes Madison Street, Congress Street, Massachusetts Avenue, and Trouble Creek Road.
A crossing is being planned by New Port Richey at Marine Parkway, which would let users of golf carts cross US Highway 19 from Gulf Harbors.
