Applications are now being accepted for the Fall Citizens Academy in New Port Richey.
Lasting nine weeks, the program will provide an in-depth look at how local services are funded and delivered, and how local government is organized. Classes will be held on Wednesday nights from 6:30 pm to 8:30 pm and at different locations throughout the city, such as the Wastewater Treatment Facility, City Hall, the Police Department, and the library.
Among the topics to be introduced at the Academy will be:
• The Fire Department and emergency management
• Governmental budgeting and economic development
• The library
• Public works and utilities
• Getting to know the city council, city manager, city clerk, and city attorney
• Law enforcement
• Parks and recreation
Such opportunities to learn more about the inner workings of a city and what keeps a city operational are often made known with poster printing.
All residents of the city aged 18 years or older are welcome to attend the Academy. Non-residents may apply, but their attendance will be approved at the discretion of the City Manager.
Applications for the Academy are due by Friday, August 8. The Academy will begin on Wednesday, September 3. The graduation ceremony will take place at the regular City Council meeting on Tuesday, November 4. A maximum of 30 participants will be admitted.
