The Citizens Academy for Fall 2026 will be held by the city of New Port Richey, starting next month.
The program lasts eight weeks and provides an in-depth look at how government services are funded and delivered, and how local government is organized. Classes are from 6:00 pm until 8:30 pm on Wednesday nights and are held at different locations throughout the city including the Wastewater Treatment Facility, the Recreation and Aquatic Center, the new Fire Station, City Hall, the Police Department, and the library. It offers a way to learn more about the city and how it operates, and to get more involved in the future of the city.
The first session is open to the public, as members of the City Council and the Mayor will be attending this session to welcome attendees. Other sessions will cover governmental budgeting, planning, economic development, and land use; emergency management and the fire department; public works and utilities; and law enforcement, among other topics. The Citizens Academy will begin on Wednesday, September 9 and end on Wednesday, November 4 when a graduation ceremony will take place during the regular meeting of the City Council.
