Orchestra presents classical to rock

The Jacksonville Symphony Orchestra will have an eclectic lineup of performances in January, with six performances featuring classical music to modern female rock.

This Friday and Saturday, January 5 and 6 at 7:30 pm, pianist Conrad Tao will be playing Gershwin’s Rhapsody in Blue followed by Rachmaninoff’s Fourth Piano Concerto. The concert will end with “Strum” by Jessie Montgomery and “Inextinguishable Symphony” by Carl Nielsen.

Women Rock! will highlight music by famed female rock and roll artists including Pat Benatar, Carole King, Janis Joplin, and Heart. Grant O-Brien will be conducting. It will be presented on January 12 and 13, beginning at 7:30 pm.

Symphony in 60 will present a quick one-hour journey from Bach and Haydn to Mozart and Beethoven.

A Journey from Back to Beethoven – Symphony in 60 will take place Thursday, January 18 beginning at 6:30 pm. Coffee and cookies will be served the hour before the Journey from Bach to Beethoven Matinee beginning at 11:00 am on January 19.

Finally, the Jacksonville Jazz Collective Director and Jazz Series Curator, James Jenkins, will direct the orchestra’s Jacksonville Jazz Collective in an evening of hits from beloved artists such as Nat Cole, Oscar Peterson, and Bill Evans. Titled the Mid-Century Modern Combo, it will be on Sunday, January 21 at 3:00 pm.
