Jacksonvilles celebrates a 45-year tradition

This year marks the 45th year of Jacksonville Symphony’s First Coast Nutcracker Ballet. This year, the ballet will have four public performances.

The classic ballet will showcase international principals and over 180 top quality local young dancers. Rhonda Stampalia will be the artistic director and choreographer again this year.

The well-known music of the ballet will be performed by the Jacksonville Symphony. Along with the attractive costumes and sets, there will be a Christmas tree that rises to 33 feet.

Tickets will be from $18 to $50. Over 1,250 free tickets will be available for deserving students and families who cannot afford to attend.

The performances will be shown to over 7,500 schoolchildren at special rates on the two days before the main shows start. Booklet printing is being done so that Booklets containing 14 pages of information about the composer, the symphony, and the ballet can be issued. They also contain pictures and games. Each child will receive one of these educational guides when they come to the show.

The performances will be at the Times-Union Center for the Performing Arts 300 Water Street, the Moran Theater Suite 200 here in town. The children’s shows will be today and tomorrow, December 15 and 16. Dates for the public performances will be December 16 and 17 at 8:00 pm, and December 17 and 18 at 2:00 pm.
