Jacksonville to celebrate Earth Day

Jacksonville is preparing to mark Earth Day with its 26th annual Earth Day and Ecology Fair.

This will be a free family-oriented event that will provide more than 80 interactive and educational displays. Each one will focus on conservation, energy and water usage, recycling, renewing or eco-friendly living.

The organizers promise that there will be activities for the whole family, including arts and crafts. Everyone will be encouraged to make more than 15 free eco-friendly crafts.

The venue’s two stages, the Coca-Cola Stage and the Children’s Stage, will offer live entertainment throughout the event. The Coca-Cola stage will be the place to view local talent such as bands, dancers, and singers. The Children’s Stage will have demonstrations, some by the Jacksonville Zoo, and interactive activities designed especially for the children.

Some crafts will include Earth Day binders, bookmarks, Mother’s Day crafts, sun visors, butterflies made out of two-liter soda bottles and butterfly sun catchers made out of tissue paper. The surrounding area will have face painting and bounce houses.

Earth-friendly companies will be on hand to display their products, services and programs, and discuss issues with passersby. Other local vendors will have tables to sell their wares as well.

Everyone will want to mark their Calendars for Saturday, April 23, from 10:00 am until 3:00 pm. The event will be located at the Jacksonville Landing, 2 W. Independent Drive, Jacksonville.
