Jacksonville Symphony presents classics

The Jacksonville Symphony will present classic music from Schumann, Bartok and Mahler, to Copeland and the Beatles during April.

On April 9 and 10 at 7:30 pm, the Florida Blue Masterworks Series will present Schumann and Bartok. Music Director Courtney Lewis will lead the symphony in an evening of deep psychological exploration of Schumann’s moody and rebellious Second Symphony, and Bartok’s bone-chilling Percussion and Celesta. The program will be in-person and live streamed.

April 16 and 17 will see the orchestra present the music of Fab Four with Classical Mystery Tour: The Beatles’ Abbey Road. Deanna Tham will be conducting music from the album Abbey Road. The Classical Mystery Tour will also pay tribute to the foursome’s early years, and their many other timeless hits.

On Friday, April 23, The Raymond James Coffee Series will present an Appalachian Spring Coffee at 11:00 am. Associate Conductor Gonzalo Farias will first lead the orchestra in “The Hebrides” by Mendelssohn-a musical reminiscence of the Scottish Highlands, and then conclude with Appalachian Spring Suite by Aaron Copland.

Friday, April 30 and May 1 at 7:30 pm, the Symphony will present Mahler’s Tenth Symphony called Song of the Earth. Dramatic staging of this song cycle will reveal the composer’s tribute to life and love. This will also be in-person and live streamed.
