Jacksonville set for a whale of a time

The Right Whale Festival will be here early next month, marking the annual return of the 465 remaining North Atlantic right whales to Georgia and Florida’s northeast coastal water.

This festival will be held to raise awareness of the threats and recovery of these giant mammals, and usually brings in over 5,000 visitors.

The event stresses the local efforts that are protecting these creatures with exhibits that will display environmentally responsible products, adventures, and education. Some of these exhibits will be presented by United States Coast Guard Auxiliary, the Florida Fish and Wildlife Conservation, and the First Coast Surfrider Foundation. The day will include art and photography, wood carving, water recreation displays, live music, and food trucks. Guests will want to arrive early so they can get a good selection of the event’s Promotional Products and T-Shirts.

The performance that will be opening the event at the main stage will be Kalani Rose. The George Aspinall Band will also be performing.

The festival organizers are asking citizens to spread the word. Some suggestions would be to get the information to local environmental organizations in time for their upcoming newsletter printing, or to pass out Flyers – on recycled paper of course.

The Right Whale Festival is slated for October 1 at the Seawalk Pavilion, 1st Street N Jacksonville Beach from 10:00 am until 4 :00pm. Admission will be free.
