Jacksonville school to dive into STEM

River City Science Academy will be hosting its fourth annual Florida STEM (science, technology, engineering, and math) and Health Expo later this month.

This year’s theme will be ‘Preparing Florida’s future STEM & Health workforce’. The event will be free and open to the public, and will give parents a chance to get their children excited about science.

Originally STEM was created to encourage girls to participate in the sciences. Now, it has branched out to include all students interested in pursuing careers in science, technology, engineering, or math. The STEM part of the event will showcase individual students’ science work and teams of students and teachers that will demonstrate robotics to the community. Scientists and educators from local industries and universities will be giving presentations and supervising hands-on science activities that involve math, engineering, science, technology, and health. These activities will be available in the Fun Zone.

The Health Expo will have doctors, other health professionals, the fire and police departments, community workers, and other health supporters distributing information on health issues. Health and science vendors will be offering fun activities as well.

Those interested will want to mark their Calendars for Saturday, May 21. The event will run from 11:00 am until 3:00 pm at the River City Science Academy Gymnasium, 7605 Beach Boulevard, Jacksonville.
