Juneteenth, African American Freedom Day, will be celebrated with at least seven events in Jacksonville.
The Jacksonville Black Rodeo will be in town for two shows on Saturday, June 11 at the Jacksonville Equestrian Center, 13611 Normandy Boulevard.
The 4th Annual Freedom Walk will begin at 10:00 am on Saturday, June 18, beginning on 8th and North Davis Street and ending at the Ritz Theater. The 10th Annual Juneteenth Family Festival will follow.
Last year’s Miss Jacksonville Juneteenth will lead the walk as the Queen of the Freedom Walk Parade and preside with her entourage at the festival. She will transfer her crown to the 2022 Miss Juneteenth in a ceremony at the Ritz which will take place from 6:30 on to 9:30 pm.
Winners of pageants such as this often have pictures taken of themselves in their royal finery. These photos are then taken to local Stationery printers to be included in family Calendars, personalized note cards, and Stationery.
Over 250 black-owned non-profits and businesses will be part of the Melanin Market taking over the five blocks along A. Philip Randolph Boulevard from 3:00 pm to 9:00 pm on June 18. Two stages will feature Jacksonville’s 95 South and the 69 Boyz.
There will also be the District of Soul’s Father’s Day Family Reunion Street Party, with a car show and BBQ cookoff on Sunday, June 19.
Juneteenth Jazz will be at James Weldon Johnson Park in downtown Jacksonville on Monday, June 20.
