Busy schedule for local symphony in Jacksonville

Six performances have been scheduled for the Jacksonville Symphony in the first half of this May.

Organist Greg Zelek, along with the JSO's wind and string players, will present Organ Chamber Music on Saturday, May 4, beginning at 7:30 pm.

This season's Jazz Series will be ending with a performance by trumpeter Terence Blanchard with his arrangement of Absence by Wayne Shorter, as well as some of his original work.

Blanchard will be joined by the E-Collective band and the Turtle Island Quartet on Sunday, May 5, beginning at 6:30 pm.

The Jacksonville Youth Orchestra will be presenting a Major/Minor concert on Wednesday, May 8. The orchestra will be under the baton of four conductors: Grant O'Brian, Helen Morin, Rose Francis-Wisniewski, and David Song. This concert will begin at 7:00 pm.

Friday, 10 and Saturday, 11  May at 7:30 pm will see the Jacksonville Symphony, along with the vocal quartet "Spectrum," entertain the audience with the Motown sounds of “Dancin' in the Streets.”

Lastly, there will be a performance entitled Arts Songs, which is described as a “melding of art and music,” as the symphony performs alongside a big screen showcasing artwork from the permanent collection of the Cummer Museum of Art and Gardens.

Art Songs will take place on Sunday, May 12 at 3:00 pm.
