Clermont runners presented with 15K challenge

Clermont Clay, a loop road made from red clay and extending 10 miles in length, and serve as the location for the Clermont Clay 15K this month.

The loop is used by outdoor adventurists, including runners, walkers, and mountain bikers. It is also a suitable location for nature lovers and birdwatchers to enjoy the rural areas in this growing city.

Many athletes, including Olympians, will travel great distances to train here, as the 10-mile loop is full of long rolling hills and a clay surface that is ideal for endurance athletes.

The loop is located in what is called the ‘Wellness Way Sector Plan’ which is part of a long-term plan for Lake County to provide development and transportation to the area. The issue facing the county is that funds are needed to provide an alternative loop should the Wellness Way Sector Plan materialize. This would enable athletes and visitors for years to come to still be able to enjoy everything the loop has to offer.

As the Horrible Hundred is to cycling, the Clermont Clay 15K is a course that allows a committed athlete to claim bragging rights. Anyone conquering the course may want to schedule a sunrise visit, as the views offer the perfect background for postcard printing to share with family and friends.

The Clermont Clay 15K will take place on November 22 at 7:30 am. All proceeds will help the South Lake Sports Foundation support future trails for the area. The entry fee is $60 if registering prior to November 20th. For online registration, visit ClermontClay.com.
