The Caribbean American Association of Lake County (CAALC) is gearing up for its 6th annual Caribbean American Heritage festival, called Clermont Jerk Festival, coming in a few weeks.
The festival will feature reggae favorite Hal Anthony and the Millennium Band. There will be a tribute to Bob Marley, calypso, and steel bands along with country western music. An Indian dance group and gospel performers are also in the line-up.
The kids’ fun zone will have the “Swamp Brother” from reality TV.
The event prides itself for its jerk cook-off competition and its recently added domino tournament. The format for the domino tournament will be six rounds with random partners. The tournament will have prizes ranging from $350 for first prize, down to eighth prize of $60. The top female finisher will receive $50.
Attractions, cultural displays and demonstrations will be free. Food vendors will be selling roast pork, pepper pot, grouper and other seafood, callaloo, and papaya.
A ‘Parade of Islands’ will occur in the middle of the afternoon. Women will be wearing colorful native costumes from the many Caribbean islands. Pictures of the parade will make interesting subjects for future poster printing, CAALC Brochures, and personalized Stationery.
The event is slated for Saturday, June 19 at Clermont Waterfront Park, 330 Third Street, Clermont. It will begin at 12:00 noon and will wind down around 10:00 pm.
