Circus set to roll up in Clermont

The New Shanghai Circus is coming to town later this month, with its Chinese traditional acts that date back as far as 2,000 years.

Families can enjoy the energy, excitement and pageantry of its 40 jugglers, contortionists, and acrobats as they perform in authentic and colorful costumes.

The ancient displays of stamina and bravery exhibited in each act will be accentuated by the state-of-the art sound and lighting systems. Some acts include a woman wearing burning candles, the Chinese yo-yo bicycle trick, an aerial fish ballet, and a ‘Magic Clock’. Other acts in the show will be a pole climbing, handstand art, and chair stacking.

Choreography in both dance and roller skating will be presented with a distinct Chinese flair, and each performance will be accompanied by traditional music. All acts will be performed in front of backdrops that have been influenced by ancient Chinese art. The talented, highly skilled acrobats are following a Chinese tradition that dates back to 700 BC, when village acrobats entertained in local harvest festivals.

Poster printing for this troupe will be a dazzling display of action and grace in swirls of reds and gold.

The circus is scheduled to perform February 27, from 4:00 pm until 6:00 pm at the Clermont Performing Arts Center’s Performing Hall, 3700 S. Highway 27, Clermont.
