Wilmington welcomes Grand Prix
Wilmington cyclists will be flocking to the 2023 Wilmington Grand Prix coming in mid-May.
The 3.2-mile Monkey Hill Time Trial and Kick-off Party will get the weekend started on the Friday evening from 5:00 pm to 8:00 pm at Brandywine Park. In a festive atmosphere among live music, food trucks, and craft beer venders, racers leave the starting line every 30 seconds in a timed race ending with the steep ascent up Monkey Hill. There will be a Commuter Challenge with proceeds going to the Urban Bike Project.
On Saturday from 11:00 am to 5:00 pm, a free festival will feature attractions, kids’ rides, sidewalk sales, and a course-side café. At 11:15 am, participants will begin the free Major Taylor Community Ride. The 25-mile Women’s Pro, I, II, and III rides begin at 12:15pm; the 35-mile Men’s Pro starts at 1:45 pm; and the 60-minute Randy Inglis Memorial Men’s II-III will begin at 3:05 pm. The last ride of the day will be the 45-minute Men’s IV-V beginning at 4:15 pm.
The weekend will end on the Sunday with the 10th Annual Governor’s Ride and 9th Delaware Gran Fondo beginning at the Delaware Art Museum. This will be a 15-mile Governor’s Ride, 32-mile Medio Fondo, and 60.7-mile Gran Fondo through picturesque Brandywine Valley.
Registration for these rides will include souvenir T-shirts sporting the event’s current graphic design, and a post-race BBQ.
Wilmington’s Grand Prix will take place May 19 through 21.
