What's Happening in Wilmington, DE…

As the holiday season nears, many here in Wilmington are getting ready for the annual Wilmington Holiday Parade coming in early December.

Local businesses, schools, non-profits, and other community groups are building floats, practicing their bands, organizing walkers, decorating their vehicles and sprucing up their animals to be part of this year’s procession. All units will include some form of lighting, animals will be decked out in their seasonal best, and bands will be blaring out seasonal music. Walkers will be distributing candy and toys to the crowd, and Santa, as always, will be the final entry.

Prize plaques and $100 will go to the best band, community group/non-profit entry, and commercial/business entry. Entries will be judged on a range of criteria including presentation, appearance, sound, image, precision, originality, creativity, and decorations.

Many units in parades such as this often get special banner printing done with colors and seasonal characters – such as Christmas trees, Santas, and stars – to match the holiday.

The parade route will begin at Walnut Street and North Front Street, go nine blocks down North Front Street, and disband at Church Street. Participation is free, and all parade unit applications must be submitted by next Friday, November 24.

The Wilmington Holiday Parade will be on Sunday, December 3 beginning at 6:00 pm and will take place rain or shine.
