Wilmington foodies have reason to celebrate

Wilmington residents who enjoy eating out and trying new restaurants will have a great time next week.

City Restaurant Week is coming to the Delaware city, and no fewer than 14 eateries are taking part in the fun.

Dining opportunities in Wilmington are unusual, since the restaurant scene has one important characteristic: owner-operators dominate the city. That is, there are no chain restaurants taking part in the week's activities. Thus, when restaurateurs organize the annual event, they feel they are extending a personal invitation to diners.

In addition, the event, now in its third year, has become more diverse than ever with the inclusion of restaurants in the West End. Previously, participating establishments were on the Riverfront and in Downtown. Now, foodies will have a chance to sample more cuisines than ever before.

All meals are the same price: $35 for dinner and $15 for lunch, which gives people an opportunity for fine dining at extremely reasonable prices. Some of the participants are Cocina Lolo, Cantina di Napoli, Harry's Seafood Grill, and Ubon Thai Cuisine. Restaurant week begins Monday, April 4, and runs through Saturday, April 9.

Event organizers might consider working with a brochure printing company to create a booklet, complete with a map that lists participating restaurants, and their hours and locations. Parking information may also be useful.
