The Kingswood Community Center in Wilmington just turned 70, and its executive director, Logan Herring wanted to celebrate the event, and to bring the community together to celebrate the good things about Wilmington.
Last Saturday, July 23, hundreds of people braved a hot, muggy day to come together in support of their city. Herring estimated that as many as 800 residents made an appearance at the event.
Organizers planned to give out about 500 T-Shirts during the day, but ran out fairly quickly. In addition, the Riverside Reunion Committee distributed 100 Backpacks to the children.
Activities during the celebration, which took place at Anderson Memorial Field, included water slides, a petting zoo, moon bounces, rock climbing, bubble soccer, face painting, horseback rides, water ice, cotton candy, food, drinks, and games. The Wilmington Fire Department brought trucks for children to climb on and explore, and Best Kept Soul, a band based in Delaware, provided live music. Dignitaries on hand included Dennis Williams, the mayor of Wilmington; Thomas P. Gordon, the New Castle County Executive; and state Senator Margaret Rose Henry.
Herring said organizers wanted the day to be special, so that attendees, especially children and young people, will associate positive experiences with life in Wilmington.
Events like these can be enhanced when organizers work with banner printing companies, which can create festive Banners with designs and slogans that promote the strength found when people work together.
