Town readying plans for First Fourth

Newtown locals and visitors from afar need not worry, because town officials are busily at work planning this year’s 4th of July activities, known here in town as First Fourth.

After last year’s celebration, which was the biggest so far, expectations are high and planners hope to make it even bigger and better this year.

Just like last year, the celebration will include a food court, which will offer a host of meal options from several local businesses. Also, many vendors will be on hand presenting their wares. There will also be a bounce area, a colonial reenactment, and a softball game (Boro vs. Township Softball).

The evening will conclude, of course, with a fireworks display. The day should provide many opportunities for picture taking, particularly of the little ones, for possible use in later postcard printing or perhaps even for poster printing.

This year, the date for the First Fourth celebration has been changed. It will occur on July 11th this year due to a scheduling conflict with the company that provides the fireworks—starting at 3:00 pm and ending after the fireworks. As in years past, the celebrations will take place on the grounds around Newtown Middle School, 116 Richboro Rd, Newtown. Attendance at the event is free, though vendors will be charging for food and admittance to the bounce house.
